What does a wedding in Sweden cost?
Get a realistic budget breakdown of what a wedding in Sweden actually costs.
One of the most searched questions in wedding planning is also one of the least honestly answered. Most "average cost" figures you'll find online are either so broad as to be meaningless or based on international markets that bear no relation to Sweden.
This is a realistic, specific breakdown of what an average and typical wedding in Sweden actually costs in 2026. It is not a minimum guide. It is not a luxury guide. It is what a well-planned, professionally executed wedding with quality vendors looks like, financially. At TWA we work with both large and smaller budgets.
The variables that matter most
Before any figures make sense, you need to know your guest count. Almost every significant cost in a wedding scales with the number of guests. A wedding for 30 costs fundamentally different from a wedding for 120, even at the same venue.
Location matters too. Stockholm and the major cities tend to carry a premium, particularly for venues and catering. Rural and northern Sweden can offer extraordinary settings at lower venue hire costs, but may add travel costs for vendors.
The main cost categories
Venue hire Budget: 30 000 – 150 000 SEK The widest range of any category. A city hall ceremony, village hall or simple outdoor setting costs almost nothing. A fully exclusive herrgård for two days including accommodation for the wedding party sits at the top of this range. Most couples in our network spend between 40 000 and 90 000 SEK on venue hire. Always check what is included — many venues quote a room hire fee that does not include furniture, staffing, kitchen equipment or the outdoor areas.
Catering — food and drink Budget: 500 – 1 200 SEK per person, plus service fees For a seated dinner with drinks, most couples spend between 600 and 900 SEK per person on food alone before service charges and VAT. Add 15–25% for staffing, rental and service fees that are frequently not included in the headline per-person price. Late-night snacks, drinks and canapés are often additional. At 80 guests, catering typically represents the single largest line item in the budget.
Photography Budget: 20 000 – 60 000 SEK A full day with an experienced, professional photographer — someone who has shot weddings before, whose work you've seen in full galleries not just highlights, and who has a written agreement — typically starts at around 25 000 SEK and rises to 50 000+ for the most sought-after names. Albums, prints and video are additional costs. Do not compromise here. Photographs are what you have when the day is over.
Wedding coordinator Budget: 15 000 – 80 000 SEK Day-of coordination — taking over communication with all vendors in the final weeks and running the day itself — typically sits between 15 000 and 25 000 SEK. Full planning support from the early stages of the process rises considerably from there, reflecting the months of work involved. This is consistently the category couples who went without most wish they had budgeted for.
Florals Budget: 15 000 – 60 000 SEK Bridal bouquet and boutonnières represent the minimum. Ceremony installation — an arch, aisle arrangements, altar flowers — adds significantly. Table arrangements for the reception, additional decor and any installation work compounds further. The final number depends entirely on scale and the complexity of what you're designing. Seasonal and locally sourced flowers will stretch your budget further than imported varieties.
Music and entertainment Budget: 10 000 – 50 000 SEK A DJ for the reception evening typically sits between 10 000 and 20 000 SEK. A live band — which most couples who have experienced both say is worth every krona — ranges from 25 000 to 50 000+ depending on the number of musicians and how long they play. Ceremony musicians are usually quoted separately.
Stationery Budget: 5 000 – 20 000 SEK A full suite including save the dates, invitations with envelopes, ceremony programmes, menus, place cards and signage sits between 8 000 and 20 000 SEK for a professionally designed and printed set. Digital save the dates reduce this significantly. Postage is frequently forgotten and adds more than couples expect.
Styling, decor and rentals Budget: 10 000 – 40 000 SEK Candles, holders, linens, furniture upgrades, signage, additional lighting — the category that grows invisibly if you're not tracking it. Set a clear budget here and work backward from it, not forward from inspiration.
Hair and makeup Budget: 5 000 – 15 000 SEK For the couple, typically. Adding bridesmaids or other members of the wedding party increases this proportionally.
Transport Budget: 3 000 – 15 000 SEK Ceremony to reception and a late-night departure, for the couple. Guest transport, shuttles and logistics for vendors with equipment are additional.
Cake Budget: 3 000 – 15 000 SEK A professionally made wedding cake — beautiful, correctly scaled for your guest count, delivered and set up on the day — starts around 4 000 SEK and rises with complexity and size.
What people consistently forget to budget for
Whether VAT is included or not. Travel and accommodation costs for vendors coming from another city. Overtime for vendors if the day runs long. Wedding insurance. Alterations to the dress. Tips and gratuities, or gifts for vendors. The cost of the rehearsal dinner if you're having one.
A starting point
For a quality wedding in Sweden for 60–80 guests with professional vendors across all categories, a realistic total budget is from 400 000 SEK. This is not a small number. It is an honest one.
For smaller weddings — intimate gatherings of up to 20 people, TWA Ceremony at a selected venue, or deliberately pared-back celebrations — the range is considerably lower.
